Des Van Rooyen wants in on state capture court battle

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Des Van Rooyen, has filed an urgent application to stop the release of the report into state capture investigated and compiled by former Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela.

The Sundays Times reported that Van Rooyen visited the Gupas home seven times before his appointment as the Finance Minister in December last year.

Van Rooyen previously lodged the application and decided to withdraw it.

EWN reporter Gia Nicolaides says Van Rooyen withdrew his previous application because Madonsela said he is not implicated in the state capture report.

But Van Rooyen said there have been persistent press reports which contradict Madonsela's statement that he is not implicated in the report.

He says these allegations are just aimed at discrediting him.

Van Rooyen has not confirmed or denied the Sunday Times report about his visit to the Gupta family.
