Mashatile worried about motive behind Gordhan charges

ANC Gauteng chair, Paul Mashatile says while he's pleased the fraud charges were withdrawn against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and former Sars employees, Oupa Magashula and Ivan Pillay, he's concerned about the "real reasons" to charge them in the first place.

I believe the NPA should only go to court or charge citizens when they have a strong case. It appears not to be the case here and it worries us what the real reason was.

Paul Mashatile, Gauteng ANC chair

Mashatile said the NPA needs to lead without fear or favour.

This is the second time where we've been plunged into crisis where the rand plummets and the economy is affected... we need to create jobs. People take decisions that are frivolous and affects the economy.

Paul Mashaitile, Gauteng ANC chair

Mashatile said there is a "weakness in leadership" in the country when there are no consequences or accountability.
