Public Protector CEO resignation raises questions

The office of the Public Protector has confirmed its CEO Advocate Louisa Zondo has resigned citing personal reasons.

Zondo will serve one month's notice after tendering her resignation on Tuesday.

The CEO's resignation comes less than three weeks into new Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's seven year term.

There is already speculation that Zondo is leaving due to lack of faith in Mkhwebane.

Zondo tendered her resignation yesterday and Mkhwebane will have to make a call about appointing a successor.

At the same time, the country waits with baited breath to see if Mkhwebane will publicise the state capture report today, after President Zuma abandoned efforts to block its release.
