Cosatu's 'unhappiness with ANC' statement due to grassroots pressure - anlayst

Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) released a statement on Thursday stating its unhappiness in the ANC led government.

It says the ANC led government should stop wasting money on court cases they know they cannot win, and should stop taking workers for granted.

In it's statement the trade union federation says it's workers are frustrated with the ANC, and understands Nehawu's call for President Jacob Zuma to resign.

Gavin Brown, labour analyst says the important thing to note from Cosatu's statement is the timing.

Current leadership of Cosatu are looking for a place to sit, because they know the music is going to stop very soon, and a lot of the forces they have been put up against are more likely to find chairs than they are.

He says it seems clear that pressure is mounting from branches and members.

Cosatu is now seeking to putting itself on the right side of that.

It is important to note that they don't refer to President Zuma in the statement as an individual, but rather to the party as a whole.

They are letting other people in the alliance understand which side they are on and how important it is to be on someone's side.
