Give Zuma an amnesty deal before things get uglier in SA - Max du Preez

Columnist Max du Preez says South Africa needs a negotiated exit plan for President Jacob Zuma (aka 'Zexit') before the current political climate gets any worse.

The political temperature in the country is so high.. We need to come to our senses, save our economy and our democracy. This has done damage to the fabric of our society.

Max du Preez, columnist

Du Preez says the damage done by Zuma's term in office is worse than the moral stain of a potential amnesty deal.

He says citizen's need to have to have a sober look at the country's state institutions and realise that the country will not survive under Zuma's leadership until 2019.

If you extrapolate the damage done is the last few months, I shudder to think were we would be next year.

Max du Preez, columnist

The DA has tabled a fresh motion of no confidence in Zuma to be debated in Parliament on Thursday, following the release of the State of Capture report.

Du Preez suggests that the ANC must facilitate the 'Zexit' plan in collaboration with civil society, business leaders and opposition parties.

The further this goes, the more unattractive it becomes.

Max du Preez, columnist

According to du Preez, Zuma is financially and criminally vulnerable if he is unseated.

However, the only way Zuma could accept the amnesty offer, is if he admits to wrong doing, explains du Preez.

Meanwhile, ANC stalwart Mavuso Msimang has urged members of the ruling party to vote with the DA.

Listen to Max du Preez thought-provoking analysis about what's at stake:
