Mashaba targets corruption and unemployment after 60 days in office

City of Joburg mayor, Herman Mashaba, will announce the head of his forensic unit tasked to tackle corruption in the administration.

Speaking to 702's John Robbie, he said that he remained concerned with how corruption hindered private sector investment in the country's economic hub.

People who have been stealing from the city and those who are thinking of continuing to steal will be put in jail.

Expressing his concern for the high unemployment rate and the housing backlog, he pointed a finger at the previous administration under former mayor, Parks Tau.

One of three of our residents are unemployed with an economy that is not performing and a housing backlog of 300 000.

He said that he will continue to focus his attention on making Johannesburg more business friendly and clean up the inner city.

The only way I can reverse unemployment is to invite the private sector and let them know that Johannesburg is a business-friendly city.
