US ambassador Gaspard says Trump win reflects "direction" of the people

Diplomat Patrick Gaspard has highlighted the importance of conceding defeat after Donald Trump was elected US president. He added that Democrats and Republicans will continue to work together in future.

The billionaire property mogul beat Hillary Clinton at the polls on Wednesday after months of mud slinging on the campaign trail this year.

This is the first time the United States has ever elected someone who has never served in government, never been appointed or elected, never served in the military, doesn't have a career in public service at all.

He said that it was important to always "respect the direction" of Americans as elections were part of the democratic process.

Sharing his observations, Gaspard said that the changes taking place in America are a reflection of global sentiments regarding job security and immigration.
