Jackie Cilliers predicts Africa will suffer under a Trump presidency and aid could be cut to countries like Ethiopia.

Jackie Cilliers, of the African Futures & Innovation at Institute for Security Studies says although it is still early days, the Trump victory is going to have a huge impact globally.

Issues around climate change and developmental assistance to Africa would probably move down the agenda.

This is a huge surprise. After the Brexit I think it is now clear that democracy in the so-called developed world it is what we call de-consolidating.

Trump has a kind of selfish approach towards issues, he is a deal-maker and would want to know what would he get in return.

Cilliers says former Republican presidents like George Bush have been quite hands-on when it comes to assisting Africa but it is not clear of whats going to happen to developmental assistance to Africa.

Ethiopian aid is going to be hardest hit, he predicts.
