FLOOD PICTURES: Mashatile to help Alexandra victims

Alexandra Township residents have been left homeless after their shacks were swept away by flash floods.

The Jukskei River burst its banks in Alexandra, and left at least 130 people homeless. Two people have died and one child from the area is still missing.

All you can see along the river bank is clothes, TVs, radios, and everything that these families had has been swept down the river. Most of them are standing here saying all they have is clothes on their backs.

Acting Gauteng Premier Paul Mashatile is currently in the area examining the damage. He says he will help people with blankets and clothes.

EWN reporter, Victor Magwedze says Mashatile said government is looking for a long term plan. He reported that people in this vulnerable area have been moved before, but always return. In the meantime, they will be temporarily moved elsewhere as more rains are expected.
