Motshekga updates on schools upgrade and leaked exam paper

South African Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, told a media briefing in Tshwane on Monday about plans for the improvements in school infrastructure, especially in areas such as Limpopo and the Eastern Cape.

EWN reporter Thando Khubeka says the minister gave an elaborate update on the progress made in delivering school infrastructure, particularly the regulations relating to the minimum uniform norms and standards for public school infrastructure.

She said despite the number of challenges...they are making progress....She says they are working tirelessly to address the backlog.

In particular, she is addressing schools with no sanitation, water and electricity at all. She told the briefing that 7 of the 9 provinces have achieved their three year target of being in line with the prescribed norms and standards. She singled out the Eastern Cape and Limpopo as having the biggest problems.

Motshekga said an arrest over the leaked maths paper is imminent. The department is no longer working with the Hawks but have taken on a private investigator.
