British American Tobacco (BAT) contributed about R18.4 billion to South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to independent analysts Quantec Research.

That is equivalent to 0.52% of the country's entire GDP.

BAT employs more than 2200 people, bought goods and services worth R6 billion from South African suppliers and generated R14.5 billion in tax revenues.
