NPA to probe long standing fraud case against Vusi Mncube

According to reports, a warrant of arrest was issued against Dr VS Mncube in Burundi for defrauding Onatel.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies on Tuesday, Mncube said the matter is still pending with the Public Protectors office and he did not wish to further engage on its details.

Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) appointed Dr. VS Mncube Consulting to conduct a forensic investigation into irregularities in its supply chain management which led to the suspension of three senior managers.

Mncube explained that his company went through all the processes when it was selected to do forensic investigations on behalf of Acsa and that they've been doing forensic work for other private companies as well.

EWN reporter, Barry Bateman has been investigating the matter and says the NPA is looking into it.

It looks like somebody, somewhere dropped the ball and that's why this matter has been in limbo for nearly a decade.

Barry Bateman, EWN reporter

Bateman says in 2006 there was a ruling and it was decided by Former President Mbeki that Mncube and his co-accused were extraditable.

The two were arrested and took to the courts to appeal Mbeki's decision.

And that's where things really started to stall, it dragged on and on. It got to a point in 2012 where there were various negotiations in the background..

Barry Bateman, EWN reporter

The acting National Director of public prosecution Nomgcobo Jiba said there is a possibility that we could actually do a local prosecution on this particular matter.

Jiba raised concerns that there were still pending motions challenging Mbeki's decision that still needed to be resolved before moving any further. Bateman says that's were it appears to have stopped.
