Minimum wage panel set to announce new wage proposal - Ramaphosa

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the Fedusa congress in Johannesburg on Friday .

Ramaphosa announced that the panel that was appointed two months ago to determine the appropriate minimum wage levels is due to release its proposal.

EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says the mechanics of how the new proposed minimum wage would be implemented and the time frame, will be discussed on Sunday after the announcement.

He said they are hoping to finalise an agreement soon but for now this is just a proposal which will be taken back to Parliament, the unions and various components.

He also said he is happy that finally they are now recording a meaning ful progress when it comes to this minimum wage.

Ramaphosa reported to the congress his meeting met the ratings agency amid of fears of a possible downgrade.

According to Manyathela, issues like labour stability and the minimum wage were discussed with the agencies. Ramaphosa said they wanted to know how government is planning to solve issues around minimum wage.

He says the meeting went very well it was positive and the rating agencies took information provided in a good way.
