Congregants refuse to lay complaint against "Doom pastor"

There are currently no investigations underway regarding prophet Lethebo Rabalago's unconventional religious practices at his church.

According to the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL), a complaint needs to be laid first.

The self-proclaimed prophet caused outrage after pictures emerged showing him spraying Doom in congregants' faces.

702's Stephen Grootes spoke to the commission's chaiperson, Thoko Xaluva, regarding the matter.

We have spoken to some of them [church congregants], they refuse to participate in terms of criminal charges.

Despite the widespread condemnation against his practices, the Limpopo-based Mountzion General Assembly church leader insists that using the pesticide is a "gift from God" to heal people.

The recent incident adds to a list of South African church leaders who continue to shock the country with their unconventional practices involving driving over congregants with cars, and encouraging them to eat grass, snakes and rats.
