Random Acts of Kindness with Dis-Chem

Children of Baghdad informal settlement receive Random Act of Kindness

The Dis-chem Foundation has donated goodie bags with cosmetics, snacks and stationery for 150 kids in Bathobohle Drop In Centre.

Bathobohle Drop In Centre is a charity organisation that impacts the lives of underprivileged children in the area of Daveyton, especially the informal settlement known as Baghdad.

The drop in centre donates clothes, food and toys. It also provides games to improve the children's skills.

The first time I went there in 2014, I did not sleep at night. It's an informal settlement. They do not have electricity. They do not have toilets. Each street uses one tap of water. You can imagine that type of situation, it's horrible.

Gugu Shoko, director of Bathobohle Drop In Centre

They think this is home and this is what I know. This is what I know that's why we have taken this initiative and expose them with a lot of things so that they know there is future and more than what I have now.

Gugu Shoko, director of Bathobohle Drop In Centre

Penny Stein of the Dis-chem Foundation says the situation at Baghdad is worrying as 'people live in rubbish dump'.

She says The Dis-chem Foundation will continue to provide support to women and children.

Health and hygiene is critical. I think for next year, we need to sit down with Gugu and her team and Dischem Foundation is going to take care of those kids and women.
