Civic rights groups in court to force Zuma to boot NPA boss

The North Gauteng High Court on Thursday heard an application by the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) and Freedom Under Law (FUL) to compel President Jacob Zuma to fire National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shaun Abrahams, as well as Torie Pretorius and Sibongile Mzinyathi, over their handling of the prosecution against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

EWN reporter Gia Niccolaides says the two civic rights groups argued that Shaun Abrahams as well as the two advocates have ruined their reputations by instituting charges against Finance Minister and later withdrawing them.

They also saying that the NPA's integrity is at stake and therefore they should be suspended and an inquiry be launched by the President.

The three have until Monday to respond to President Jacob Zuma's letter asking for reasons why they should not be suspended.

They feel the NPA is an important institution and this should be a matter of urgency and a matter of public interest.

They asked if the pilot is found to be incompetent to fly a plane why would you put him back into the cockpit, that's the same situation with the NPA.
