The High Court in Pretoria is hearing arguments from Freedom Under Law (FUL) and Helen Suzman Foundation (HSL) on why President Jacob Zuma should urgently suspend National Prosecuting Authority head, Shaun Abrahams.
Zuma's lawyer, Advocate Ishmail Semenya, has argued that the President is following procedural fairness, and has written to Abrahams and advocates Torie Pretorius and Sibongile Mzinyathi asking why they should not be suspended pending an inquiry over their decision to prosecute Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.
FUL and HSF are concerned that Zuma will sit on the matter for a long time, and are wanting to convince the court to rule that the matter is urgent.
The court will decide whether the matter is urgent by the end of today.
