SA gets new spy boss

The new inspector-general of intelligence was selected by Parliament’s joint standing committee on intelligence.

Dr Stlhoumamaru Dintwe was unanimously nominated as the preferred candidate for the position of inspector-general of intelligence‚ the legislature announced on Thursday.

The position has been vacant for the past 18 months.

EWN reporter Gaye Davis says it took a long time for the position to be filled because the ANC's preferred candidate did not receive support in the National Assembly.

Ten candidates were interviewed last month and the committee presented a report that Dintwe was the preferred candidate.

And he seems to come with the right pedigree...

He has a policing background, he was a constable in 2000 and rose up through the ranks. He was with IPID and worked as anti-corruption investigator.

He has a doctorate in police science which is focused on forensic investigation.
