Prof Teffo: Zuma won't step down without a fight

28 November 2016 8:21 AM

The ANC NEC has extended it's meeting for a third day on discussions believed to be around whether to recall President Jacob Zuma.

The ANC's National Executive Committee (NEC) has extended it's meeting to continue discussions regarding President Jacob Zuma's future.

Minister Derek Hanekom is the first member of Cabinet to join a chorus of ANC veterans, high profile business people and opposition parties calling for Zuma to step down.

702's Stephen Grootes spoke to political analyst, Professor Lesiba Teffo, on what's likely to be the outcome.

Referring to Zuma's strategy to remain in power as "politics of the stomach", he said his staying power lies in patronage links with people he has elected.

As much as his intellectual capital is not the best, he has been shrewd in getting people in positions that matter.

Professor Teffo said he has little confidence in Zuma stepping down willingly considering his attack against those calling for his removal.

I don't think he would go quietly especially because his supporters would take stock of what that decision means for them.
