ANC NEC members debate Zuma stepping down

African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) members have now been asked to state whether or not they want President Jacob Zuma to step down.

According to EWN reporter Clement Manyathela, 34 members have said the President should step down, 30 members are in favour of Zuma staing in office and 14 have yet to speak out.

It is believed that three members of the NEC, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies, have left the meeting.

The NEC meeting follows Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom's motion of no-confidence against Zuma.

The information we are getting is that it not a vote, it is NEC members merely standing up and saying why the President should or should not step down.
