The Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of SA (Redisa) has sounded alarm bells over the proposed tyre tax model.
Earlier this year, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan announced the tax which would come into effect in February 2017.
Speaking to 702's Stephen Grootes (standing in for John Robbie), director Stacey Davidson said the proposed tyre levy would fail as a result of money collected being directed towards the government.
She insisted that the management fee currently being charged is more effective in allocating funds to required services.
It's not just about the recycling of tyres, it's really about ensuring that products are designed for circularity.— Stacey Davidson, Director at Redisa
