The DA is doing damage control after one of it's councillors published a problematic Facebook post on her personal account about homeless people.
DA councillor Shayne Ramsay wrote that Sea Point residents should stop giving handouts to car guards, beggars and street people so that they can go elsewhere.
Ramsay has since removed the post and published an apology to anyone who was offended.
She has also cancelled her intended 'March Against Grime' which was planned to drive the homeless from the area.
The DA has since distanced themselves from the post and the City of Cape Town’s disciplinary committee has launched an investigation.
Shayne Ramsay's comments do not represent the DA, our values and policies. Action is being taken by the relevant structures.— Mmusi Maimane (@MmusiMaimane) November 28, 2016
The post by Cllr Ramsay was not sanctioned by the City of Cape Town. We are a caring City that believes in helping the homeless.— Patricia de Lille (@PatriciaDeLille) November 28, 2016
I've asked the Speaker to look into the matter surrounding Cllr Ramsay's conduct.— Patricia de Lille (@PatriciaDeLille) November 28, 2016
Meanwhile, Western Cape ANC has called for her immediate suspension.
