WATCH: Over 200 locals in Camps Bay Mannequin Challenge

First it was Halloween, Black Friday then Thanks Giving, and now another American craze, the Mannequin Challenge, has gained popularity in South Africa.

The Mannequin Challenge is a viral video craze in which people imitate mannequins, freezing for the camera as music plays in the background.

The video was filmed and edited by Calvin Munhuweyi and directed by Calvin and Instagram SA.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, Munhuweyi says he put out an invite on Instagram and shared it with friends asking for people to participate in the challenge at Camps Bay.

Over 200 people pitched and they relayed the message to others who spread the message to everyone on the beach.

We were suppose to start at 2pm but we ended up starting an hour later because we had to coordinate the whole thing properly.

At 3pm we blew the whistle and everyone just froze. The whole shoot took about 6 - 7 minutes.
