Sassa undertakes R141b social grants distribution despite concerns raised

Black Sash has raised concern about Sassa's capacity to take over the distribution of R141 billion in administering the social grants funds.

The Department of Social Development was embroiled in a lengthy court battle over the administration of the social grant distribution contract with companies AllPay and Cash Paymaster Systems.

We have seen many violations, we have seen that Cash Paymaster Services has too much control at the ground level and fraudulent actions.

Elroy Paulus, Black Sash

702's Stephen Grootes spoke to national advocacy manager of Black Sash, who believes that the department has caused the conundrum by awarding the "invalid" contract to Cash Paymaster Systems.

It remains a mystery how the matter will unfold as Sassa is expected to present a progress report on their plan going to the portfolio committee on social development in Parliament.

We will watch like hawks... Sassa, government and Parliament owes the 17 million beneficiaries an explanation.

Elroy Paulus, Black Sash
