Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Amendment Bill 101

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Lizel Oberholzer, Director of Oil and Gas at Norton Rose Fulbright.

Oberholzer discussed the following five important things to know about the MPRD Amendment Bill:

  • The bill seeks to address exploration viability in SA.

  • Operation Phakisa allowed for the oil and gas industry and the Department of Mineral Resources to get together on one platform to talk about the issues.

  • State participation is a key issue.

  • Three new classes of exploration has been identified, distinguishing between risk exposure.

  • Also the introduction of a Petroleum Charter with an aim of at least 10% BEE.
