We are trying to make recommendations to make Sars the best possible [tax collector].— Judge Dennis Davis
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has ordered an investigation into the work done at the South African Revenue Service (Sars).
The probe will be headed by Judge Dennis Davis.
It will look at the ending of multiple enforcement units, governance and accountability within Sars as well as the implementation of recommendations by the Davis Tax Committee (DTC).
Gordhan doesn’t trust information Sars gives him “because of a lack of accountability and cooperation from the Sars top management”.
