South Africans love to braai. And braai season has officially started as the year draws to a close with many more gatherings under the sun.
While we are a country of diverse people from different walks to life, braai etiquette does exist to keep everyone on the same page.
Founder of iCookART, Mpho Ntholeng, spoke to 702's Azania Mosaka to share the unwritten rules that govern the distinctly local tradition.

Here is a list of do's at a braai:
- Ask your host what you should bring
- Buy good quality meat and enough to share (if it's a bring and braai)
- Keep the braai master company
- Ask the braai master how his drink is and offer to refill frequently
- Offer to help set and clear the table
Don't be overzealous with alcohol on meat because that also impacts on the taste. If you are going to do that then use it as part of your marinade instead of sprinkling beer on the meat.— Mpho Ntholeng, founder of iCookART
- Ask for the marinade recipe, it's almost always a secret
- Complain about the music
- Give the braai master cooking advice of any kind
- Bring additional people unless approved by the braai master
