After a series of meetings, a group of ANC veterans is scheduled to meet with ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe and his deputy Jessie Duarte today.
This is a follow-up to an earlier meeting two weeks ago when the group of veterans met with the ANC National Working Committee to discuss issues raised in a document they presented entitled 'For The Sake of our Future.'
One of the issues the group raised was for the party to hold a consultative conference to conduct an assessment with self-reflection and introspection.
EWN's Clement Manyathela spoke to Charlotte Kilbane (standing in for Stephen Grootes) on The Midday Report. He says the ANC is arranging for this to take place.
But it would not be a separate event. It would take place in the first two days of the party's policy conference that is expected to take place next year in June and July.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
The veterans met last week. They discussed among themselves the latest developments including the call made by President Jacob Zuma's colleagues for him to step down, that was rejected.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
Manyathela says some veterans want more clarity on the outcomes of the NEC about this call and why it was rejected.
They also want to discuss how is this consultative conference going to be structured, who is going to be attending it, and what exactly is going to be the mandate when it happens next year.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
The agenda for those two days is a pivotal issue, say the veterans.
