Swift action to be taken against bullies at Lückhoff High School

Two videos of bullying at Lückhoff High School in Stellenbosch have emerged showing the extent of the problem plaguing the school.

In the first video, a girl is seen hitting a fellow learner's head into her knee, pulling her hair as well as slapping her in the face.

In the second video, a student at the same school is seen verbally abusing a younger pupil and eventually hitting and punching her.

Jessica Shelver, provincial education MEC’s spokesperson, says the department visited the school on Monday and there are processes in place to discipline the perpetrators. She says at the time they visited the school they were not aware of the second incident which happened on November 28.

She says they are concerned that the learners in the video chose to stand around and film the incident instead of assisting the victim.

She says this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and it's being taken very seriously.

It appears that the school is struggling with behavioral challenges with the learners.

The school thought that the punitive measures that they have in place were working and it is evident from these two videos that they aren't.

Shelver says they will be working with the school on anti bullying interventions. They have so far approached child welfare in Stellenbosch to assist the school in dealing with bullying holistically.
