Aussies turn on world’s first commercial wave power station. A solution for SA?

The world’s first power station fuelled by waves has been turned on and successfully connected to Western Australia’s electricity grid.

The wave power station will provide electricity for Australia’s biggest naval base, situated on Garden Island five kilometres off the Western Australian coast.

The station generates electricity when submerged buoys are moved by waves, thereby creating hydraulic pressure which is converted into electricity.

The station can, for now, generate 3 MW of electricity, enough to power 2000 Australian households.

The power plant of the future covers 71 percent of the planet.
