Gauteng Education all set for 2017 academic year

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says schools in the province have enrolled more than 2.3 million pupils.

Lesufi said the number of pupils increased by 100 000 from last year due to more people moving to the City of Gold.

He says his department is ready for the 2017 academic year.

EWN reporter, Thando Kubheka, says the MEC stated that the online registration system received over 300 000 people, and over 200 000 have been successfully placed in schools.

MEC says parents should write to him if they have challenges with registering or finding a school for their children.

Unfortunately there are about 82 000 pupils who have still not been placed in schools, and Lesufi says his department will work around the clock to ensure that these learners are placed.
