SA gears up to celebrate the historic signing of "model Constitution"

South Africa will celebrate the signing of the constitution on December 10, 1996, which helped transition the country into a democratic dispensation.

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Masutha, said President Jacob Zuma will visit various communities in celebrating the momentous day in SA's history.

Our constitution is revered the world over as one of the model constitutions, especially because of the Bill of Rights.

Adv Michael Masutha, Justice and Correctional Services Minister

Acknowledging the strides the country has made in protecting rights, he conceded "we still have a long way to go" in ensuring that economic equality becomes a reality in order to restore the dignity suffered from past injustices.

The Constitution is meant to level the playing field to facilitate that ideal.
