City of Johannesburg to remove illegal boom gates

Executive director for Transport in the City of Joburg, Lisa Seftel, says the City has decided to take down illegal boom gates because some residents to do not comply with the procedure for security access restrictions.

We have got over 200 security access restrictions for boom gates in the City of Johannesburg, and the majority of them are in compliance.

Hurlingham North Residents' Association chairperson, Rob Lage, says the City did not follow the process of engagement before structures were taken down.

We have been trying to get meetings with right people at the City, we have been unable to get meetings.

And I said to the City, while we're talking, can you please not interfere with automation that's in process, which is also utilised in Pretoria and Ekurhuleni and they seem to not have a problem with it.
