Another psychiatric patient transferred from Life Esidimeni dies

Health Ombudsman, Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, says he has received all the information he needs to compile the report on more than 30 psychiatric patients who died during a transfer from Life Healthcare Esidimeni Hospital to various NGOs.

Makgoba was appointed by Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi to gather facts on what happened and provide clear guidelines on the matter.

He says he has interviewed 74 people, panel of eight experts on the clinical records of the patients who died, the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) on 25 NGOs inspected, and others involved.

It's been comprehensive in terms of stakeholders, in order to search for the truth and share a reasonable story with the nation on what happened.
