ROAD SAFETY : Kill carnage and prioritize car seats

Transport Minister Dipuo Peters is introducing a new regulation to the National Road Traffic Act officially as of 1 May, the regulation requires for all children under 3 to be strapped into a car seat when travelling in a car.

This comes as an attempt to decrease the number of fatalities on the roads, law enforcement officers will be cracking down on parents who do not put the safety of their children first.

Alida Jones is the Founder of the Drive More Safely campaign, she started the campaign in 2009 after losing her son in a car accident.

Jones spoke to the Weekend Breakfast team expressing her excitement that the importance of car seats for kids' road safety is finally being enforced by the authorities.

It's taken such a long time, it's taken me about 4 years now to get this law changed and you know I've been very verbal about it. I'm excited but I'm also worried on the one hand because the implementation of this and the policing, this is what I'm worried about.
