Eleanor Moore and her Bandstand bid farewell

Eleanor has built The Bandstand into appointment listening for fans of all ages who tune in for her nostalgic mix of standards and big band sounds that evoke memories of yesteryear.

She took over a version of the show from John Berks when he left 702 and injected her own personality, as well as her personal music collection – much of which she grew up listening to with her father.

Eleanor has given fans so much of herself, for so many years. While we know that she will be missed, we wish her a wonderful new experience: Saturday nights to spend with her own friends and family.

Eleanor expressed gratitude to the many fans of the show:

I would sincerely like to thank all the devoted and loyal listeners for their overwhelming support of the programme over so many years. I was truly privileged to have been given a platform to share my own collection of music with you.

Eleanor Moore

Eleanor’s association with 702 goes back to 1996 when she joined the station as a call screener. She soon progressed to become the producer for John Berk’s morning show, which some might quip would have been the toughest job in radio!

John started a specialised music show, The John Berks Jukebox, to cater to the standards which were not played on any of the Top 40 format stations at the time. When he resigned, Eleanor took over and Bandstand was born.

For the last 11 and a half years she has hosted the show each Saturday night, and has only missed one show in all that time.

She says she is most looking forward to being able to travel in the new year.

In addition to the weekly live show, Eleanor compiled seven Bandstand compilation CDs which may console fans as they are still available on iTunes and in good CD stores.

The 702 Saturday evening line up for 2017 is still being finalised and listeners will be informed of the new shows in due course.
