ANC could have another Zuma as president come 2017

Private equity transactor and co-founder of the South African Business Angels Network, Mvi Hlope, says looking at previous voting patterns, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma could be the next president of the ANC.

This speculation first emerged when Dlamini-Zuma's term as the Chairperson of the African Union came to an end but SA's unions have been vocal about backing Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to be the next president.

If you look at the level of discipline in what I call the premier league faction.... there's been a deliberate resounding victory for Jacob Zuma in Mangaung.

The patronage network has actually extended and has become more entrenched... I don't see a way that these people aren't going to vote in a similar fashion come December next year.

Hlope says the ANC didn't do as well as they would've loved in the local government elections only because a lot of its loyal supporters simply stayed away, not that they voted for the opposition.

Voting for the opposition was not an option, he says.

People understand that their loyalty lies with the ANC and in protests for things like service delivery and local competency from Councillors they decided to stay away.
