Following a listener's concern the the packaging materials used by Woolworths is non-recyclable, CapeTalk's John Maytham gets clarity from Justin Smith, head of sustainable development for the retailer.
Smith explained that it is not true that Woolworths uses packaging that is not easily recycled. He explained what the codes on the packaging actually mean.
The codes the listener is referring to that range from 1-7 don't actually mean that something is recyclable or not. They were developed to help the people who are sorting recycling to separate appropriately.— Justin Smith, Head of sustainable development at Woolworths
