What's the difference between "use by" and "sell by" dates?

Consumers have been urged to be more vigilant about the quality of perishable goods and understand the differences between expiry, sell by and use by dates.

South African goods don't have standardised conventions regarding marking of items on retailers' shelves.

702's Bruce Whitfield spoke to the spokesperson of Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman, Ouma Ramaru, about perishable goods.

We need to understand as consumers that retailers and manufacturers are legally obliged to display the use by or sell by date on products.
