Popcru calls on top cops to stop infighting, tackle police killings

Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) says infighting within South African Police Service (Saps) ranks makes it difficult to tackle the increasing number of police killings.

Popcru spokesperson, Richard Mamabolo, says Popcru has tried to help guide police with tips on safety, but there have to be formal guidelines from leadership.

Popcru's call comes after a police officer was shot dead in Jeppestown in Johannesburg while on duty this morning.

Last week Constable Mziwonke Siwisa was shot and killed outside his home in Kraaifontein when waiting for transport to report for duty.

We don't want a leadership that reacts to situations. We want leadership that is proactive.

Richard Mamabolo, Popcru spokesperson
