How ambition can drive others to change their destiny

Being ambitious has the ability to change your life and inspire those around you to do the same.

Motivational speaker Billy Selekane and communication strategist Lance Claasen shared their insightful views on the value of ambition and it's power to drive social change.

Selekane describes ambition as the yearning to put your expression out into the world and receive some kind of benefit in return; whether it be accolades, money or prestige.

I believe ambition is the expression of the essence of humanity. Each and everyone of us aspires to make a dent in the world. That expression can be through a song, dance, painting or design.

Billy Selekane, motivational speaker

He says ambition means that you don't want things to be as they are - it allows you to inspire others and show people the power of possibility.

Selekane maintains that the achievements of an ambitions person can inspire others to alter the course of their own lives.

At the same time, Claasen says ambition is the decision to change one's narrative and rewrite your story.

For me, ambition is the opportunity to define who you want to be.... We have to have ambition that exceeds what we've been told or shaped to do.

Lance Claasen, communication strategist

He says that it's not necessarily measured in monetary value, but that the value is an expression of where you want to be.

Claasen explains that ambition can help focus people to become goal-orientated, challenge the status quo, and rise above their current circumstances.

He warns against greed and unrestrained ambition which only seeks to enrich a single individual, instead of society.

According to Claasen, ambition should not be separate from selflessness, good will or adding social value.

Several listeners called in to share their experiences and engage the two guests:
