Absa backs Gordhan in proving hands are tied in Gupta-banks saga
Absa has joined Standard Bank and filed an answering affidavit in support of a case brought by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.
Gordhan has made a court application for an order confirming that he cannot interfere in banks’ decisions to cut ties with the Gupta family.
Gordhan went to the High Court after big banks closed the accounts of Gupta-linked businesses to seek a declaratory order that he cannot get involved, despite pressure to act.
Absa filed the affidavit in the high court in Pretoria on Thursday, reports EWN's Clement Manyathela.
Manyathela says the affidavit goes into great lengths to explain why the bank cut ties with the Guptas.
