Father Russell Pollitt has come out in support of Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba's response to President Jacob Zuma’s plea for the church to distance itself from ongoing political debate in the country.
On Saturday Makgoba told a congregation at St George's Cathedral, that he is pleased three of the Western Cape's dioceses in Cape Town, False Bay and Saldanha Bay have rejected Zuma's comments.
He said Zuma's call is reminiscent of what an apartheid era president would've said.
Pollitt who is the director of the Jesuit Institute of South Africa says Zuma is misguided in what he has to say.
He has explained the importance of religious institutions to keep government accountable and to help people know how to make good choices.
