Product placement is a non-traditional advertising technique that companies use to subtly promote their products through appearances in movies, television shows or other media.

An advertiser pays a media company to have their product or service displayed or featured in a show or movie in the hope of getting viewers to buy it.

Many people view product placement as deceptive and therefore unethical.

Does it work?

Do featured products generate a better return on investment than putting the same amount of money behind a conventional advertisement?

Product placements, if done properly, work better than traditional advertising as it overcomes PVRs and people getting up during ads. It has to be done subtly though.
