American actress Meryl Streep lashes out at Donald Trump

American actress and singer, Meryl Streep, has criticised President-elect Donald Trump for imitating a disabled reporter while campaigning to be president.

Streep said Trump's actions give others permission to do the same.

She said this during her acceptance speech for the Cecil B DeMille award during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Hollywood.

Stephen Grootes take a look at the story with Sowetan entertainment editor, Lesley Mofokeng.

Meryl has been very vocal. We know that she supported Hillary Clinton. But she is an activist and she speaks out on issues. I'm not surprised she took this moment to lash at Trump.

Lesley Mofokeng, Sowetan entertainment editor

It's a tradition with Americans that Republican presidents fall victim to this kind of mockery whereas someone like Barack Obama was very admired.
