Parents should be involved in kids day-to-day schooling - Basic Ed Minister

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa visited schools in Parys on the first day of the 2017 academic school year.

EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says both the Motshekga and Ramaphosa have said that they believe everything went well on the first day of school.

They mentioned the problem of placements in Gauteng province where 58 000 children still need to be placed, and in Limpopo where stationery has not yet been delivered.

The Minister said that her government will ensure assistance is given to both these provinces to resolve the problems.

Manyathela says the Minister called on parents to become involved in the education system, saying that education is a societal issue.

She encourages parents to be involved in the daily tasks of the students, saying when they come home from school, parents should ask what they did in the classroom that day.
