Firefighters are monitoring Paarl fire, currently under control

Firefighters worked through the night to contain the fire that broke out in the Paarl area.

According to EWN reporter Natalie Malgas, the fire ravaged 650 hectares of farmland and destroyed about ten to thirteen structures, including homes.

200 people had to be evacuated from their homes because the flames were so close.

She says the fire is currently contained, and firefighters are still monitoring the area to ensure there are no flareups.

There are concerns over high winds which might cause problems for firefighters.
