The ANC needs to clarify its position on succession - analyst

The African National Congress (ANC) has condemned its members for publicly putting forward names of party leaders to succeed President Jacob Zuma as ANC president.

However, secretary general, Gwede Mantashe says the party needs to think about a succession plan when electing the deputy president.

Political Analyst, Sipho Seepe says the succession plan did not work when Jacob Zuma became president and questions why they are raising this issue now.

The ANC should come to a position and stop talking about 'traditionally' and 'normally'. They should ask themselves whether they want a process that is democratised in a succession process or a contestation.

Sipho Seepe, Political analyst

If they do that then they cant say normally this person becomes that.
