Victims of FNB safety deposit box heists hire private investigators

The victims of two heists at FNB branches have hired private investigators as part of their own investigations.

Thieves nabbed 360 safety deposit boxes on 18 December at a FNB branch in Randburg.

A second robbery at the bank’s Parktown branch took place on 31 December.

FNB is not legally responsible for the loss, except if the victims can prove gross negligence.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Kelly Fraser.

Fraser’s father lost Krugerrands worth almost R1 million.

We’re frustrated by the complete lack of communication by FNB.

Kelly Fraser

I can’t understand why they can’t come up with a phrase that’s not vetted by their legal team.

Kelly Fraser

They’re making quite a bit of money [with safety deposit boxes].

Kelly Fraser

They don’t let you tell them what’s inside the boxes.

Kelly Fraser

They should’ve pointed out that they don’t take responsibility for the safety of the boxes.
