Harmony Gold miners stage a sit-in over 'special bonuses'

Miners at Harmony Gold staged a two-day sit-in at the Kusasalethu mine near Carletonville. They refused to re-surface from the mine until management met their demands.

According to EWN reporter Ziyanda Ngcobo, miners demanded that the company pay them special bonuses that were promised last year.

The miners resurfaced in the early hours of Friday morning after Amcu intervened.

After negotiations between the mine and the union representing the miners, it was agreed that the bonuses would be paid.

Amcu says they didn't stage the demonstrations but they placed the blame on Harmony Gold saying the mine workers were promised these bonuses.
